Abstract

Islamic educational institutions have a strategic role in character building, scientific development, and strengthening Islamic values in the life of Indonesian people. This article aims to examine Islamic educational institutions from the aspect of theoretical review, public perception, educational goals, and development in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative approach with a library research method through the analysis of books, scientific journal articles, and relevant policy documents. The results of the study show that theoretically Islamic educational institutions are based on the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah with the aim of forming a balanced kamil between spiritual, intellectual, and social aspects. Public perception of Islamic educational institutions has undergone dynamics, from traditional views to more positive understandings along with institutional transformation and integration of religious and general sciences. The development of Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia, ranging from families, mosques, Islamic boarding schools, madrasas, Islamic schools, to Islamic universities, shows the ability to adapt to changing times and national education policies. Thus, Islamic educational institutions have an important contribution to the national education system and have great potential in producing religious, moderate, and competitive human resources
